Climate change is already causing serious impacts on and costs for our transport infrastructure. If we’re to reach Net Zero, we need to measure the whole of life carbon in our transport, reduce our trips, shift to different modes of transport, and switch our fuels.
Changing how we move will be the key. Find out more about how we are building greener, more efficient, and people-centric transportation that helps our communities connect and thrive here.
To decarbonise our transport, we first need to measure the whole of life carbon, including from the supply chain, its construction and the road users. By considering it early in the planning stage and then valuing the carbon appropriately, we can inform our decision-making to achieve the best results.
Developing this understanding means that tough decisions can be made where needed to minimise and mitigate the impact of emissions.
Our Carbon Zero framework includes tools to do this which have already been applied across the UK.
Reducing our trips by developing 15-minute neighbourhoods, 30-minute cities and through people-orientated developments, as well as improving and developing our digital access, will dramatically reduce the carbon emissions of our transportation while also building cleaner and healthier places for our communities.
Decarbonising transport is more than just switching to electric vehicles. It will take a complete shift in how we think about, plan for, and use transportation. We must adapt to new technologies and transition to different modes of transport, changing from private road use to active transport, mass transport, micro-mobility and electric or zero-emission vehicles.
Decarbonising our transport will take more than just switching electric vehicles. We must change how we move and completely shift our thinking, planning and use of transport.
Great places that are easy to access don’t happen by chance. How we can transform cities and neighbourhoods from congested, car-centric spaces into more active, connected, liveable and sustainable places?
With the National Electric Vehicle Strategy (NEVS) recently released, Australia has a clearer vision to increase electric vehicle (EV) uptake. We spoke with four industry experts about Australia's EV future.
